A: A first step is towards "prevention". It costs a lot less money to prevent injuries and harmful exposures than to treat them. Yearly physical examinations of all your employees is a first step. Finding medical problems and or areas of weakness before they become clinically evident can save your company thousands of dollars in medical costs, wage loss, absenteeism, lost production and employee replacement. Medical surveillance, Transitional Work Programs, Drug Free Workplace Programs and Safety Programs are supported by grants offered by the Ohio BWC. With minimal expenditure, your company can reduce the rate of costly injuries and receive a 10- 20 % reduction on your Worker's Compensation insurance premium. Call Harmony Healthworks to start your prevention programs today. Q: Where should my employees go for drug screens and medical care of their injuries when Harmony Healthworks is closed? A: Harmony Healthwork's office hours are Monday thru Friday 8am till 5pm. After hours care should be directed to the Emergency Department (ED) at Barberton Citizens Hospital, 155 5th St. NE. The ED has agreed to provide collection services including urine drug screens and breath alcohol screens if so requested for your injured employees. These tests are known as "post-accident". Collections are also offered for "Reasonable Suspicion and "Random" requirements. You should not receive a bill from the hospital for drug screen services. Harmony Healthworks will pay the hospital for the collection services and bill the employer $75 for post-accident collections and $150 for reasonable suspicion or random collections. |
News & UpdatesTopic: Respirator Use By Your EmployeesIf your employees use or require respirators of any kind, including paper masks, to do their job, you (the employer) are required to have a written "respiratory protection program" with worksite specific procedures (OSHA Regulations-Standards-29 CFR-1910.134). Employers must provide a medical evaluation process to determine their employee's ability to use a respirator. For many employees, the process may be as simple as completing an OSHA medical questionnaire which must be reviewed by a physician or other licensed health care professional. Some employees may require physical examination, spirometry and other evaluations before making a determination. Evaluations need to be completed every year. At a minimum, this includes completion of the OSHA questionnaire. Once an employee is medically cleared to use a respirator, they require a "fit test" for the respirator(s) they will be using. Depending on the type of mask, quantitative or qualitative testing is required on a yearly basis. Additional training in the use, storage, maintenance and care of respirators is mandatory. Harmony Healthworks provides all of the above services to implement an effective respiratory protection program for your company. Call us today to insure the safety and compliance of your workplace. |
